OK, the story goes:
A friend of mine that I worked with 10-12 years ago at Greybar Electric who was there when I first bought my mk1's (the racecar now) called me up out of the blue on Wednesday afternoon to tell me his old rabbit was being hauled to the crusher that day. This was at around 3pm. Since I was working out at Lake Louise I didn't get the message untill almost 8pm and tried to get ahold of him but I only had his work number. I got ahold of him Thursday morning and we talked and he told me it was too late and that it was a 74 (75 actually). We both cried a little bit. He asked if I would have taken it, I said yes. He said he would try to find it and see for sure if it was too late. He called again this morning while I was driving back to Anch and said he had found it and that I could get it today only for $25. Yes, $25. He also told me that the wrecking yard told him that they normally crush vehicles as soon as they hit the yard to save space, but it was late Wed so they pushed it off to Thurs, but then had to run out to Wasilla for some BS or another and didn't get around to it, or stacking anything on top of it! So we really did save it from the crusher, the worlds aligned and I now have an unbelievable amount of work to make a real car out of it again.
I'll post up more pics in a little bit once I get them to Photobucket. It does have some rust and some dents. It's missing the OG hood, and a lot of the other swallow specific stuff is pretty beat, but I don't care and I'm not a nazi purist so I'll live. I haven't really got a plan for it yet, but I will. It's got the original 1.5 or1.6 and an auto(I can fix that). The strut towers are in amazing shape for a 35 year old car and so far I haven't found much true death cancer.
At the time of salvation:
So here's some more pics, as I got it, I haven't cleaned a thing, as you can plainly see!
Ewwwh, what is that!!!!!
More to follow as I get into it.
